Five Dollar Foundation

Bright Light, Bright Light / Fourteen’ll Get You Nothing

Two Thumbs Down

A rather likeable five-track EP of happy-go-lucky, dynamic pop-rock from Madison, Wisconsin’s Five Dollar Foundation that sees the four-some finding a nice balance between energetic performances and focusing on the strength of often sharp melodies. The subtle use of keyboards adds a nice touch to the otherwise standard power-pop trio format, and especially “Learn By Doing” benefits greatly from this. An even greater emphasis on adding nuances to their sound would be welcome, and not all of the tracks are equally noteworthy. All in all, though, this is a fine debut from a promising band, and I for one look forward to hear more.
