Tommy Rivers & the Raw Ramps

Tommy Rivers has been a stalwart figure on the Atlanta music scene for decades now, from the days of the Desperate Angels in the ’70s (which featured future Georgia Satellites members Rick Richards and Randy Delay) to the present. He’s an able songwriter, good vocalist and works the mic like it’s 1975 and he’s onstage with The Faces. While he’s never really been known too much outside of Atlanta, he’s always stayed true to the sounds that have moved him all along: The Rolling Stones, British Invasion, and generally, all things rocking. His latest release — seemingly recorded in 1998 but only seeing the light of day four years later — features 14 great songs, performed by Rivers and his buddies, including Rick Richards, Charlie Gray and Bruce Smith, formerly of The Swinging Richards (yeah, raise a beer if you remember them…). If you like no-frills rock, then search this out. No, it’s not the next new thing, but those new things never really last, do they? Unlike Tommy Rivers.
