Welcome to the Jungle

A playful and inventive new album from Benett, that sees her and songwriting partners Tom Bogdon and the mysterious Chris dragging folk pop from the bedroom to hell and back again. On an almost ridiculously diverse collection of songs, the only unifying element seems to be a mod-approach to campfire lo-fi, that sees her moving directly from the punk indie-pop of “All Of Me” to the frantic and repetitive electro-churn that is “My Death March.” A striking contrast that somehow seems to make sense in the weird world of Benett.

In some ways approaching an imagined trashier The Bangles, Benett doesn’t really sound like anyone but herself, and she does it with style and wit on an album where nothing is sacred, and everything is up for grabs.
