Another album of refreshing and invigorating melodic rock from Seven Nations, whose career highpoints so far include support slots for The Black Crowes and The Violent Femmes as well as performances at last year’s New York Marathon and the 2002 Winter Olympics Torch Arrival Ceremony. Their irresistible, catchy brand of pop rock adds elements of traditional Celtic music to great effect – they even have a guy on bagpipes, dammit – and the result is not only their most consistent album to date, but also one of the finest adult rock albums of the year.
Taking their cue from artists as diverse as Crowded House, The Tragically Hip, R.E.M., and The Waterboys, Seven Nations have come up with an album of solid and instantly likeable music, guaranteed to put a stupid grin on your face. Strong compositions like the brilliantly upbeat “Wonderful,” the annoyingly hummable “Leave It,” and the silly, unashamed pure pop of “My Little Lady” are only some of the many highlights here. And with Seven Nations’ constant shifting between moods and styles, this is an album that rarely – if ever – produces any real miss or low point. A surprisingly strong effort that will add even more followers to Seven Nations’ already big, loyal fan base.
