A lame band name if ever there was one, Unsung Zeros have still managed to come up with a rather likeable album of unpretentious nice boys’ punk, with strong commercial pop leanings. If not the most original or exciting album of the year, this is full of up-beat feel-good punk, delivered with energy and glee. The lyrics are all about love lost and found, and are quite sweet, actually, in a teen-love kind of way.
Likeable pop punk, in a Midtown-meets-Cheap Trick fashion, Unsung Zeros will surely turn a few heads down at your local radio station, and songs like “Turncoat,” “Pictures,” and the annoyingly catchy “Broadcast” are pretty convincing evidence of this band’s potential.
The album does loose some momentum as it progresses, though, and the second half leans a bit towards the dull side. Still, the young and energetic Unsung Zeros have delivered a promising and likeable release with this, and are definitely worth checking out for fans of carefree, sing-along punk pop.
