Swayzak

Dirty Dancing

!K7

The UK’s prominent dance duo, James Taylor and David Brown, continue their unerring devotion to one of America’s finest actors: Patrick Swayze. Not only is their chosen moniker a riff on the thespian’s name, but this album is appropriately named after Olivier, Jr.’s greatest theatrical triumph. However, if you’re looking for an ’80s take on the ’50s and ’60s, you’re sadly mistaken. Taylor and Brown are strictly modern. Dirty Dancing is an amazing amalgamation between borderline house bounce and pre-industrial fuzz and distortion. With the help of talents like Claire Dietrich (who will just have you oozing on “Make Up Your Mind”), Headgear, Kotai, and others, Swayzak gives the sophisticated dance ear everything with which to puncture itself with delight. Despite the name of the group and the album, this project is something to take seriously – and enjoy to the utmost.
