Zen and the Art of Chilling
For those of you who want a little tahini in your chill, this disc is for you. This second volume of Zen and the Art of Chilling glides along a dreamy soundscape on iced-down beats and pastel kaleidoscope atmospherics with the pungent kick of Middle Eastern and South Asian spices. Jah Wobble and Bill Laswell deliver an immaculate — almost spiritual — tabla groove with “Radio Axiom — Alsema Dub.” There’s the lustful dreaminess of Aziza A’s “Deniz (Sea)” and Rollercone’s “Detends-Toi.” Robert Miles kicks in with the dreamy Desi Dre-like “Paths.” Boozoo Bajou’s “YMB” is a really nice groove, and there are also tracks from Gotan Project, Bob Holroyd, Transglobal Underground, Agricantus, and TJ Rehmi. A very nice, mellow time with just a dash of the transnational, foreign and familiar, this is a nice disc to open up and relax minds simultaneously.
