Yesterday’s Kids
Can’t Hear Nothin’
Panic Button / Lookout!
While Yesterday’s Kids make no secrets of where they’re coming from, there’s no denying the sheer talents of this young power-pop trio. Their sophomore release is funded on the legacy of The Zombies, Big Star, The Posies and Teenage Fanclub, and is delivered with a hook-ridden attack strongly reminiscent of early Green Day. Energetic and fun pop abounds, with songs like the splendid “Keep It Down” and the stomping “The Shithead” being only two of several highlights. There’s a dark and intriguing quality in much of the material on here, and Yesterday’s Kids easily avoid being lumped together with the dull banality of several similarly styled bands. Feel-good power-pop with an edge. Promising and well beyond.
