Bjorn Olsson

UPA

Gravitation

OK, just what the hell is this? Olsson, most recently of The Soundtrack of our Lives, lets loose with nine cuts of sonic goofiness (and nine remixes of the same material, for some reason). The opener, “Schweinfest,” is a nice little exercise in steel drums and heavy metal guitars, the next, “Tema IV,” is Ennio Morricone spaghetti western music without a hint of irony. Odd stuff. Sounding at times like the reincarnation of Burt Bacharach or Herb Alpert (why?), this all instrumental record sounds unlike anything else you own. And if it doesn’t, then you have one weird record collection, fella. Highly recommended. Recommended to who, I don’t know.
