Hot Water Music & The Casket Lottery

Colors, Words, & Dreams

Second Nature

You know you can’t go wrong with a seven-inch split of Hot Water Music and The Casket Lottery covering one song each by 1980s DC-hopefuls Government Issue, and on beautiful purple vinyl, no less. Hot Water Music, one of the definitive top hardcore acts around these days, do an amazing take on “Jaded Eyes” from 1987, serving up great snarling hardcore, more directly expressive than their usual selves. Another fine addition to an already stunning back-catalogue. The Casket Lottery’s version of 1988’s “For Ever” is a nice piece of political call-to-arms punk core, hard-edged feel-good rock that can actually stand up next to Hot Water Music’s track. “For Ever” is one of Government Issue’s standout tracks on album, and The Casket Lottery do a brilliant version of it. Highly recommended.
