40 Grit
Nothing To Remember
Metal Blade
Hard melodic rock will never go out of style. Nor will it ever be in style.
In either case, 40 Grit deliver their stuff with a stylish swagger, a boastful aura that never mistakes grandeur for passion, nor thinks hard must always equal loud. Nothing To Remember is an aggressive set, for sure, at times resembling Machine Head, Pro-Pain and latter-day Anthrax. It’s a pretty clever and sonically dynamic set too, that adds to its tales of painful love a healthy dose of optimism and good faith.
Thankfully avoiding the studious epic stadium anthems, Nothing To Remember is a mish-mash of hard rock styles, neatly incorporated into one fine album, aided by the beneficial insight of Alice in Chains and the lesson that suicide is stupid. It’s not going to change the face of music, but it’s a solid and well-crafted album well worth checking out by for fans of hard melodic rock performed with the hindsight of grunge.
