Yellow6 / Rothko / Landing
New Found Land
Music Fellowship
This is an ambient three-way split from atmospheric sadcore label Music Fellowship, on which Yellow6, Rothko and Landing are each given 20+ minutes to state their case. Yellow6 is guitarist Jon Attwood. His five carefully ambient tracks offer lilting melodies on top of drearier, more depressed soundscapes. Attwood•s layered guitar playing slowly erases the instrument as an expression in itself, as he delivers a hauntingly beautiful set, marked by unsettling comfort and vague displeasure.
Mark Beazley•s •Halftones and Metatones• is a fine introduction to the sadly drifting, weary-eyed music he produces under the Rothko moniker (working solo on the recordings included here). It•s post-rock with a broken heart going from disturbed lushness to tense, held-back breaths of electronica, showing both the scope and the unity of Beazley•s vision.
The compassionate hurriedness of hyper prolific quartet Landing has been documented on several releases lately. The five tracks included here are a particularly pleasing demonstration of their daring contemplations. Male and female vocals steer the repetitious beauty of the tracks to their conclusion, with particularly pleasing results on tracks like •With You• and •Mepeop.•
