White Light Motorcade

Thank You, Goodnight

Octone

White Light Motorcade is the latest entrant in the battle for New York’s coveted rock crown. Avoiding the stylistic traps and easy pigeonholes that have tripped up some of their peers, on this release the band shows themselves to be comfortable with a range of styles, all resting loosely on a guitar-centered approach. The album’s tone ranges from full-on rockers to more rock-pop oriented fare. Their sound hearkens back to early Nineties groups like Suede, Inspiral Carpets and other Brit-pop acts – a hybrid mixture of rock rave-ups all displayed with glam rock chops.

Although the album opens with such hard rocking fare as “Open Your Eyes,” the heart of the album rests more on tracks like, “It•s Happening,” “My Way” and “We Come Together.” If I didn•t know the name of the band and just heard these tracks I would think this was a release from Gay Dad.

Not necessarily earth shaking or genre shattering, “Thank You, Goodnight,” finds another talented New York band demonstrating that rock in the Big Apple is far from gone. Those who have a penchant for inspired power-pop or Brit-pop acts will certainly be impressed by this release.
