An exhausting debut EP, 01 presents a frenetically, charged sound from this highly promising four-piece. Taking their cue from the original New Wave, Raymond power their music through post-hardcore dementia and come up with an aggressively demanding sound that will provoke listeners into making a decision about the band. At times too muddled and contrived for their own good, Raymond’s strength is their ability to write a good song — “Trust Me” is evidence of this, as is the eerily aggressive “Sunshine.” Beautifully crafted to convey a full collapse, Raymond invoke images of intelligent chaos, precise dementia. It doesn’t make for an easy listening, but it sure keeps things interesting.
