The Latin Project

Nueva Musica

Electric Monkey

Jazzanova, Trüby Trio, Sidestepper, MAW, Miguel Migs, Cuica, John Beltran. While the electro Latin tradition isn’t all that long-lived, it surely is chock full of damned good acts and music. The British duo of Jez Colin (former bassist for the Solsonics) and Matt Cooper (a.k.a. Outside) has now added the name of The Latin Project to that impressive list. Colin and Cooper mix acoustic and electronic sounds incredibly well, taking Afro-Latin sounds and throwing them into a dubby, nu jazz, deep house gumbo. Nueva Musica is an intoxicating mix that works well in the home and on the dancefloor with its rich soulful sound and sensual textures. With the help of fellow Eletric Monkey artista Joël, Freddie Crespo, Katia Moraes, Violetta Villacorta, flamenco guitarist Marc Antoine, and even Terence Trent Darby (or, in this case, Sananda), The Latin Project is a wholly entertaining disc dipped in the tropical sun and dripping with dancefloor excitement.

The fact that the band Slaves to Sirens exists is impressive, but that they live, love, and breathe to play metal takes things to another level. Sirens documents the journey. Review by Charles DJ Deppner.
