The Sound of the Crowd

The toon is dead, long live the toon.

Jerry Beck has a good if not completely succesful review of Disney’s next-to-last 2-D animated feature for the forseeable future here. I call it good because it strikes a nicely elgiac tone and is well written, and I call it not completely succesful because it doesn’t make me any more inclined to go out and see the film, as it wants to. I guess I’ve already digested the fact that this genre, like Cole Porter-style musicals, has died. And I don’t particuarly want to attend the funeral. No disrespect–actually I could not have more respect for the great animated features of the past 65 years. They gave us a wonderful run. And now, it’s time for Nemo.
