The Wednesdays

The Wednesdays

You Will Gasp And They Will Breathe

Equal parts Mötorhead and the Hangmen, The Wednesdays like their steel-chromed heavy metal served with the snarl of garage rawk, showing an insatiable appetite for punk-edged rock’n’roll. The Alabaman brother trio plays with a muscular, heavy-handed attack, beautifully recreating the sound of their live set, coming across like a sped-up Johnny Thunders or a young and scruffy Paul Westerberg. Perhaps it’s a bit one-dimensional sounding, but there’s just no way this 20+ minute long disc will leave you with enough time or leftover energy to really notice. The Wednesdays are not about songwriting or clever arrangements — they’re about delivering the most consistent, unapologetic and filthy rock you’ve heard. And although it’s a long stretch to say they succeed on all points, this already great live act still proves to be an ever more exciting band on disc.
