Too Pure
Three song EPs are much too short a taste to get the totality of a band’s musical flavor. It’s hard to make an informed decision when you’re only given eight minutes with which to work. Electrelane use those minutes to full effect however, first teasing on the title track with the sound of a disco Sleater-Kinney fronted by Elastica’s Justine Frischmann at her most emotionally detached. Farfisa organ and a low mixed, fuzzed out guitar set the stage for a drenching downpour on their cover of The Boss’s “I’m On Fire.” The final track, an instrumental, is a nice diversion full of chiming, intertwining guitars. On Parade may not be groundbreaking, but it is very solid and it definitely piques my interest in their forthcoming full length.
