The Sound of the Crowd

Julie Schwartz, 1915-2004

I want to take note of the passing of Julius Schwartz, DC Comics editor and “Goodwill Ambassador.” If you read any DC comics from the 50’s through the ’80s, you almost certainly read a comic Schwartz edited or a character he worked on. He was one of the fathers of what is known as the “silver age” in fandom. He was also much beloved by his colleagues, which is why if you go to just about any comics-related website these past few days, you’ll see a tribute to him, like this one from Neil Gaiman. Gaiman also links to a fuller obit by Mark Evanier.
