According to one of those surveys that seems to exist solely for the purposes of making women feel bad about themselves…
The smarter a woman is, the less likely she is to get married.
Now, there’s at least three reactions I have to this. One is to recollect one of my favorite quotes by actor/writer/radio show host Harry Shearer, who was once asked:
Why do you think bright men are attracted to neurotic women?
He replied, “Bright men are attracted to bright women, and most bright women are neurotic. They’ve been brought up in a culture that still thinks a bright woman is a bit of an oxymoron and that it can be cured by being fucked enough.”
The second is to point out that the survey was taken in Britain, so American women need not worry. You know how we feel about smart women in America.
Third comes to us courtesy of our old friend Keitha, who’s looking over my shoulder right now and saying “Yeah–smart women know enough not to get married. So what’s the big deal?” Which of course made Annabel say “Honey…” in a dangerous, warning sort of tone and…I’d better leave those two to their privacy…*
*For those of you not in on the joke, this refers to my characters Keitha and Annabel, a lesbian couple.
