This post just grew on me
I deleted an earlier version of this post and moved it up here because I keep finding new things to add to it.
Three blog entries or columns on related topics:
- The White House spin cycle, by David Shuster:
I don’t know if things are getting better or worse in Iraq. But I do know the Bush administration is now in total panic mode over the erosion of public support for the occupation. How else could one explain the President’s bizarre radio address this past Saturday or the even more surreal comments recently from other administration officials?
First, the president’s radio address: On Saturday President Bush defended the war in Iraq saying, “We went to war because we were attacked.” Huh? In September 2003, the President himself stated, “We’ve had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th attacks.” </b>
- As you may recall, my man E. J. Dionne Jr. is one of my favorite columnists. He has a gift for expressing himself on issues that I’ve yet to fully articulate my thoughts about. It helps that I usually agree with him, of course.
Here he addresses himself to a key question about the above: Is the Bush administration made up of liars or fools? Because goodness knows, those are the only two choices if you’re honest.
- Digby adds a note on a related topic: Did they really buy their own bullshit?
