The Green Children
The Green Children
The Green Children are adorable pixies; if you look at their album cover, you’d think it was a still from a Harry Potter adventure. Consisting of a handsome lad (Murell) and a fetching lass (Milla), The Green Children produce music that really can’t be traced to their physical appearance, which is definitely aiming for a sword & sorcery angle. Not much in terms of wizardry here, although one track is called “Dragons.”
However, if you look beyond your initial expectations, you’ll quickly realize that this is a superb Eurodisco effort. Ironically, for a band that tries for a distinctly English look, their songs have a recognizably American flavor. Milla’s voice, when it’s not soaring to Asgard, has a contemporary R&B raspiness to it. Murell and Milla seem to be combining their European and American club influences. The bubbly synthesizers party like it’s 1989 in London, but the vocals take a decidedly modern approach.
Like most dance music, the appeal is not in the lyrics; there’s little emotional weight in the words here. No, The Green Children will seduce you with their grooves. “Dragons” is a floor-filler for sure, and most of the record follows its way of simply making you move. It’ll shake your socks off.
