Punk rock rules, say kids…
Punk rock rules with America’s youngsters, who voted Green Day their favorite group at the Kids Choice Awards on Saturday.
The Bay Area trio also nabbed the honor for favorite song (“Wake Me Up When September Ends”), and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong injected a dose of rebelliousness into proceedings.
“Don’t believe everything you see on television, and stick it to the man,” Armstrong told the crowd of 10,000 caffeinated kids and their parents during Nickelodeon’s 19th annual bash at the Pauley Pavilion.</i>
Hell yeah. I think a nation of kids chanting the lyrics from the title song of Green Day’s last record, American Idiot, bodes well:
American Idiot
Don’t want to be an American idiot.
Don’t want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind fuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones meant to follow.
For that’s enough to argue.
Well maybe I’m the faggot America.
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.
Indeed. Rock on, kids.
