It’s taken me months to really absorb this album to the point where I could write a legitimate review. The Coral are not a band that reaches out and grabs you with the first listen. Combining pop rock melodies with ’60s psychedelia, their vibe shifts with every other note from trippy to creepy to cheesy.
After several listens, and having since found a love for the Coral-inspired fellow Liverpool band The Zutons, I began to appreciate the layers of dark and light. Like The Doors, the seven-piece band seems to pull inspiration from every aspect of life and art — they can make dancing with lepers sound like a good time.
Produced by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley, Invisible Invasion is an interesting find, but will not please every palate.
