This is a beautifully presented book. At first glance it might seem that the lofts presented in it are ideal, unattainable spaces. These lofts are well-stocked with good, modern furniture, most have a good view, there is often good cross ventilation… in every way these are good lofts.
Then it hits you, these spaces are so much smaller than the houses most depicted in glossy magazines. The inhabitants of these lofts had to figure out where to put things – in other words, “place stuff” – within the context of a smaller architectural envelope. The lessons of making a relatively small space function and be uncluttered are quite useful.
