Truth to Power

Why does Time Magazine…

Print gibberish from right wing theocratic extremists? First it was the cover story on the ghoulish Ann Coulter, now its giving a column to that intellectually stunted preacher of division and hate, James Dobson, who writes on the subject of Mary Cheney’s pregnancy:

Two Mommies Is One Too Many

…In raising these issues, Focus on the Family does not desire to harm or insult women such as Cheney and Poe. Rather, our conviction is that birth and adoption are the purview of married heterosexual couples. Traditional marriage is God’s design for the family and is rooted in biblical truth. When that divine plan is implemented, children have the best opportunity to thrive.

Which sounds amazingly like any mullah you’d hear on Al-Jazerra, basing their intent to legislate morality at the point of a gun on a fictional book of fairy tales.

According to educational psychologist Carol Gilligan, mothers tend to stress sympathy, grace and care to their children, while fathers accent justice, fairness and duty. Moms give a child a sense of hopefulness; dads provide a sense of right and wrong and its consequences.

This is what Carol Gilligan had to say about the right reverend co-opting her work and distorting the findings:

BREAKING NEWS: DOBSON SLAMMED FOR DISTORTING RESEARCH IN TIME MAGAZINE

Miami Beach, FLA. – New York University educational psychologist Carol Gilligan, PhD, today slammed Focus on the Family leader, James C. Dobson, for “twisting” and “distorting” her research in a guest column he wrote in this week’s issue of Time Magazine. Dobson misrepresented her work in an effort to smear gay families while discussing Mary Cheney’s pregnancy. In a pointed letter to Dobson, Gilligan demanded that he apologize and “cease and desist” from quoting her work in the future.

Dobson continues:

Other researchers have determined that boys are not born with an understanding of “maleness.” They have to learn it, ideally from their fathers.</i>

And this is how he thinks fathers should “teach maleness”:

In his June 2002 Focus on the Family newsletter Dobson endorses advice by Dr. Nicolosi on preventing homosexuality in boys. The advice proposed that fathers take their sons into the shower with them where “the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger”.

Dobson and his followers are as rabid, backwards, and intolerant as any radical islamist you can point to, save that they don’t actually kill people as part of their “faith”.

Oops, maybe they do:

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) – A Catholic priest was convicted Wednesday </a>of participating in Rwanda’s 1994 genocide by ordering militiamen to set fire to a church and then bulldoze it while 2,000 people were huddled inside.

Athanase Seromba, sitting before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, although he will get credit for the four years he has served. </i>

Or, they train their children to exterminate anyone who isn’t a follower of their particular “truth”.

This is society at its lowest ebb.
