Aiden, It Dies Today, I Killed the Prom Queen, He Is Legend

Philadelphia, PA • November 21, 2006

After an hour outside in the fifty-degree weather and some miscommunication, I finally made my way into the Trocadero. The place was bursting with scenesters, many dressed in their summer attire.

The sold-out show started at 7 p.m. with I Killed the Prom Queen. I walked in during the end of He Is Legend’s set. The three songs I was able to hear weren’t too great; lead singer Schuylar Croom sounded like he was trying to eat the mic and the sound quality wasn’t great.

Next up was It Dies Today. I had heard of the band before, but never heard their music. My friends assured me that the band’s stage show was great and I would not be disappointed. The New York rockers had a great energetic performance and had the crowd all over the place.

Aiden came on next. Again, I had never heard any of their music, but people were swearing by these guys. As soon as they took the stage, you could sense that these guys demand all attention. Lead singer Wil found himself in the pit with the fans, as the rest of the band played one of the most energetic performances I have ever seen. The interaction between the band members and the audience was amazing. Wil carried on several conversations between songs, encouraging fans to give it their all in the mosh pit. With each songs, the pit seemed to get a bit more intense than the last; articles of clothing (shoes, shirts, etc.) were flying everywhere.

Of course, with the good comes the bad. There were some guys in the back who felt the need to shout obscenities at the band and talk about their use of make-up and how bad they suck. However, the true fans of the band could have cared less; they were having the time of their lives. There were a few technical problems with the mic, but fans disregarded them.

Afterwards, I found out just how crazy the pit was. My friends, who had been dead center, almost wound up in a fight and people were even bit by other fans who wanted to get closer to the front. As much as I love being front and center for the concerts, that part made me a bit happy that I had entered so late.

Headlining band Silverstein took the stage at approximately 10 pm. Their fans managed to pack the floor even tighter– something I had thought was impossible. The Aiden fans made their way to the lobby, littering the hall, waiting for the band to make an appearance. As Aiden’s drummer, Jake, made his way in, fans clutched their cameras tightly, while others looked around for the rest of the members.

After three songs by Silverstein, I had to leave to catch the EL. The three songs weren’t too bad, yet it just didn’t have any kind of great effect on me. I said my goodbyes and walked through the Aiden fans. As I walked through the streets of Chinatown, I found myself humming some of Aiden’s songs. I think I may have to check out their CDs.
