The Disco Biscuits

The Wind At Four To Fly

Diamond Riggs

The Disco Biscuits are an electronic jazz-fusion band from Philly. What is electronic jazz-fusion? It’s a complex, layered sound with guitars, keyboards, drums and all the other accompaniments of a modern rock band. For all I know they have groupies, but there’s little mention of that on the disc or the website. Like much electronica, there’s an emphasis on long, extended songs that flow into each other with no pause and a de-emphasis of vocals. Initially, the music is quite engaging, but on both discs in this two-disc collection I went through same arc: “Wow, that’s cool!” to “Man, they’re really into this.” to “Boy, this is going on a long time…” and ending with “ANYTHING else! Please!” They’re good musicians but I feel I’m sitting through the free-form jazz improvisation scene in Spinal Tap. Dance at your own risk.
