The Little Ones
Sing Song EP
Branches
The opening track, “Let Them Ring the Bells,” is the weakest tune on this six song preview of what’s to come from this California indie power-pop band. If you can get past the trite, hippy 3 minutes of “whoah, oh, ooh, oh”s and into the remaining gems of happy pop-dom, you’ll be in for a treat. “High On A Hill” in particular is worth a listen, or two, or ten.
According to the band’s press release, they set a rule for themselves while in the recording studio called “Uncle Lee’s Rule of Feet.” The rule proclaimed that a song was only worthy of recording if each of The Little One’s feet could shimmy shake. It was established during this process that the band would be a happy one, a dancey one.
They brought in David Newton of The Mighty Lemon Drops to aid with production, and an EP of fun indie pop – in the vein of The Shins — was the result. If you like your music sugary sweet, and not too deep, you found the right band.
