Detach Records

Every time I listen to this disc, I think of Pink Floyd about the time they released Meddle. While the instruments and arrangements are progressive rock styles, there’s a sense of playfulness in the song writing and real style in the playing and arranging. They’ve got the pedal steel guitar as the centerpiece of some songs, an acoustic guitar always lurks in the background, and chirping pianos and what might be a Mellotron all appear just where you would like them. Lyrics are use sparingly, but to good effect, and occasionally there’s just the right sounds to make me flash back to the days of cheap incense and that sort of half-baked Buddhism everyone used as an excuse to get high before class. For a band that refuses to use capital letters, this quad of New Mexico art rockers have there licks down solid.
