Our Puzzling Encounters Considered

Metal Blade Records

Coming off as an overly muscular hybrid of Naked City and Devin Townshend’s Strapping Young Lad, minus most of the outsider/innovator tendencies of both bands, it’s undeniable that every member of Psyopus is a helluva player but I’m hard pressed to differentiate one song from another (except the one where the vocalist sounds like Sam Kinison), and the playing gets dangerously close to Guitar Center/Steve Vai-esque showoffery a little too often. Besides, haven’t Genghis Tron pretty much turned the page on this sort of leftfield future-weirdo metal? The answer is yes. Not bad for what it is.
