Truth to Power

Stunning

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.”

Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Neo-con enabler and Cheney biographer Stephen Hayes appeared on CNN the other day, in the role of Lady Macbeth, attempting to wash away that damn’d spot he and the other Brook Brothers butchers earned laying waste to Iraq:

HAYES: The state of the Iraqi infrastructure before we went in, before we dropped one bomb was deplorable. It was far worse than any damage that we did during the war.

CAFFERTY: Are you suggesting that a five year war has helped things over there?

HAYES: No, I’m not suggesting a five year war has helped things, necessarily, although the reconstruction has. But most of the damage that was done to the Iraqi infrastructure was done well before the U.S. came.</em>

This, of course, is a lie. If the Iraqi infrastructure needed some sprucing up, perhaps it was a result of Clinton’s inhumane sanctions, but make no mistake- we broke Iraq. Everyone- everyone except the people who appear on CNN and the mentally stagnated among us that watch that swill- everyone knows what we did, what we continue to do, and what we seemingly will continue to do, no matter if its the nifty Negro or the doddering old crank who throws enough chum in the waters to get elected. Our butchery will continue without a hiccup.

But wait, it gets worse.

If we lived in a society that actually practiced what it preached- if it did actually respect human rights, the rule of law, and the sanctity of ALL human life, then we’d have never been in Iraq to begin with. Not now, not in the early ’90s when we carried out the turkey shoot, or starving children to death while the oil companies played footsie under the guise of the UN under Bubba check your zipper, or now, playing mall cop in a tribal food court from hell.

Even if our warmongering despots did actually “get it wrong” on Iraqi intelligence prior to the invasion this go around- a big if, considering that we knew then as we know now that they were lying– even then, those people responsible could have nutted up, looked at the situation, and quietly slinked off into company board oblivion, or more appropriately, suicide- instead of strutting their inhumanity like new fake tits whenever they can get their mug on Hannity or CNN. But no, these are not real men, real humans of which we speak, these are ghouls devoid of souls- truly, because only a sociophatic goon- you know, the real Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy sort of creature could say the following:

It’s pretty outrageous that the Iraqis, you know, effectively have lockboxes all over the world holding this surplus. It made sense, I think for a while for the United States to be careful about how much of a burden – a financial burden we put on Iraq, as Iraq got the oil sector going and things of that nature. But now you’re at a point where the country is stabilized in terms of its violence, for the most part, and Iraqis should be contributing more.

More? More what?

More dead citizens? More burnt to a crisp babies? More oil?

And he follows with:

I don’t think you’re going to find very many people in Washington who will disagree with the findings of this report…

Which is, sadly, the only true thing he said all night.

Yes, John McCain, and all the chest thumping cheerleaders who get paid to masturbate on Faux about killing innocent people, to all of you I say this- I am ashamed of America. Not of what we were, or could be, but of what we are. I’m ashamed that our society is so benumbed to the river of stinking bullshit that we’ve been forced to endure that we can’t even recognize the animals in our midst- and protect ourselves from them via education- combating their lies with reality. Every time one of these chickenhawk thugs appears on television, show this picture:

“iraq_turkeyshoot01”

Yes, I’m ashamed of this country. Not its people- well, not most of them, anyway- but I’m ashamed that a place and an idea I was raised to love and respect is no longer worthy of such. I am enraged at the lies, the fraud, the waste, all of it- but sadder still, I’m afraid that this time, right now- is as good as its gonna get. Because no matter who occupies the White House, this country is in a bad place. Our institutions can’t be trusted, our economic scrotum is being held, gingerly for now, by China and India, and we can’t even inspect bridges, yet somehow, the fat get fatter, the rich get richer, and the rest of us, well, we just do all the work- whatever work remains in this country, anyway, and get buggered at the pump, the grocery and the doctors office, all for what?

For what?

No, this is as good as we’re going to see for decades to come. The end might come quick, if some jackass gets cranky and nukes Iran, or it might take a while longer, until we have no industry, banks or infrastructure left in this country. And at the end of it all, be assured that some asshole in a suit is going to be teabagging another asshole on TV, blaming someone else for it all going to shit.

Just watch. Gil Scott-Heron was wrong. The revolution was televised. We just didn’t realize what we were watching.
