The Alternate Routes
The Watershed EP
The Alternate Routes are becoming one of the premier alt.country bands around. Their stunning debut Good and Reckless and True was nearly flawless. They are flying right into their next release, The Watershed EP, which builds on their country roots, while expanding their sound.
On “Louisiana” they get their country full-on with lyrics like “My trailer got lost in the flood/ And momma won’t give me no love.” It has a classic country sound. It leads right into “Asked You Twice,” a hard beat lays a perfect backdrop for the harmonies that flow through the chorus and accentuates the powerful vocals of Tim Warren. Insert an electric slide guitar solo and a harmonica and you have a quintessential alt-rock song.
“Love Me For Nothing” starts off with the clever lyric, “You’re running out of space/ I’m running out of things to wear twice.” The lyrics and the sparse music makes for a perfect song about coming to the fork in the road of a relationship. “I can make it okay/ If you’re going my way.”
Warren’s vocals drive The Alternate Routes and that is also what powers The Watershed EP. This group is one of the tightest and best sounding groups in the genre. Their lyrics are contemporary, but hearken back to the days of Hank Williams. The balance is audio perfection. The Alternate Routes are poised for super stardom.
