Truth to Power

Utah activist to get his own law

Mike Noel gets a rope

Tim DeChristopher is probably feeling some combination of pride and terror, right now.

The monkey wrencher who infamously and peacefully derailed a federal oil and gas-lease auction has a proposed law moving through the Legislature aimed right at him. The bill – let’s call it Tim’s Law – would carry a minimum mandatory $7,500 fine for bidding at an land-lease auction with no intent to pay.

DeChristopher has explained to supportive audiences that his bogus bids, worth $1.8 million, were an act of civil disobedience to save the planet. That nonsense bends HB437 sponsor Rep. Mike Noel, rancher and all-purpose land developer, out of shape:

A lot of people [were] cheering. That’s wrong.</em>

And I was one of ‘em. Screw you, Rep. Noel. Go serve the citizens instead of the developers for once.
