CD Review – David Serby
Honkytonk and Vine
Harbor Grove Records
David Serby is primed for country stardom with a front page feature in the Los Angeles Times and the LA CityBeat calling this album one of the best of 2009 so far. He is like a less twangy Dwight Yoakum especially on the opening track “Get It In Gear.” Songs like “Honky Tonk Affair” and “I Only Smoke when I’m Drinking” harken back to legends George Jones and Hank Williams. Serby is country music unfiltered. It’s also some of the best country music you’ll hear this year.
