If disco is really dead, those must be zombies out on the floor. Chromeo is a DJ and remix duo from Montreal, and the music selected for this disc tends toward a Francophone vocal line. The musical mix is a combo of some current tracks; some older material and an interesting disco remix of the Eagles “I Can’t Tell You Why,” complete with an autotune-enhanced chorus. Leo Sayer, that disco gnome of the ’70s, gets a 21st century makeover on “Easy to Love,” and the Alan Parsons Project provides a relaxed and almost unrecognizable version of “Pipeline.”

Despite these venerable names, it’s the first few cuts that make this dance party rock. Kano opens the project with a dark mix called “Ikeya-Seki” featuring a sound that might be the Pet Shop Boys working in a New Wave style. They’re followed by a funky, bass-filled shout and response number form Pierre Perpall that sounds a bit a like a French Average White Band.

It’s a fun collection, and if you missed disco the first time around, this high energy collection will reset you for the current decade. I just hope polyester leisure suits aren’t looming on the horizon – today’s breathable micro fabrics are a much better choice for a night of sweaty boogie on a flashing dance floor.
