The Horse Power EP

Quite Scientific Records

You sort of expect a bunch of Budweiser-soaked good ole boys to be in a band with a NASCAR related name, but you’d be way off base. Instead, these Detroit natives make quirky, indie music that feature pensive love songs, sprightly arrangements, and blue eyed vocals.

“Vocal Chords” is a good example on this four song collection. With steel guitar chords sampled over rain stick and stripped down rhythm, the lead singer (either Joshua Epstein or Daniel Zott, but please let it be Mr. Zott) sounds like he’s singing in the shower with a pleasant delay. “Simple Girl” opens with someone whistling and someone else on glockenspiel, then expands into an early Beatles-styled love song. They wrap up with a spacey, floaty cover of the Beach Boys “God Only Knows” stripped down to acoustic guitar and a few samples of cymbals and electric bass floating gently in the ether high over the motor city.

There’s one more cut here, but I need to leave you with at least a little suspense. Their pick hit “Nothing But Our Love” is a free download from [www.daleearnhardtjrjr.com](http://www.daleearnhardtjrjr.com/). You’ll be impressed and pleasantly surprised, just like I was.
