Between Us
Mishara
Peter Bradley Adams’ fourth solo effort Between Us not only chronicles the singer-songwriter’s recent move from Nashville to the Big Apple but stands as a shining example of the standard of independent music in 2011.
The former Eastmountainsouth frontman has never been one for the limelight, but the quality of the gentle folk-pop on Between Us proves that Adams’ music deserves a wider audience.
Songs like the delicate title track, the rootsy “Waltz for the Faithless,” and the atmospheric “Emily’s Rain” show how much his songwriting has matured since debut solo album Gather Up. Adams’ former band mate, Kat Maslich Bode, makes a welcome appearance on the stirring “Mother Don’t Look Down,” while memorable opener “I May Not Let Go” shares a co-write credit with Garrison Starr. Indeed, it’s a measure of the quality of the songwriting on offer that the superb “Be Still My Heart” and the epic “My Love Is My Love” raise the bar even higher.
Between Us provides further evidence that you increasingly need to look outside of the mainstream for music with real depth, sincerity and a distinctive sound.
