Dirk Darrow: NCSSI

Tim Motley

Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival – Yellow Venue</b>

What can I say about Dirk Darrow? He’s got a snappy fedora, a rumpled trench coat, and he emits a curious clicking sound when selecting audience participation “volunteers.” and he does the only man I know who can swallow razor blades and dental floss and keep his whole system clean and crisp. Darrow opens with a classically funny “thought guy on the docks” story, he’s really a mentalist who can spin together a multitude of illusions and keep a recalcitrant audience under control. His material draws impressive “Oohs” and “Ahhs”, and even when some wise guys call him out he still keeps the upper hand. Tonight he’s on a tricky murder case, we help him find the who, what where, when and why of the case, and when he unexpectedly launches in to an interpretive dance number, criminals confess and gay men applaud. The only thing that could make this better would be a bleached blonde with gorgeous gams. You can’t have everything, but if we gave stars here in Orlando, he’d get five of them.
