Paul Strickland: Jokes, Songs, a Hat, Etc!

Paul Strickland: Jokes, Songs, a Hat, Etc!

Beth Marshall Presents

Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival – Brown Venue</strong>

This is one of the most accurate titles of this year’s Fringe and I’m glad to see perennial favorite Paul Strickland back with a song and comedy set polished at the recent Atlanta Fringe. His plain spoken Kentucky drawl emphasizes his humor and provided his singing with the sort of plaintive county sound that underpins blue grass. Like all comedians Strickland is looking for approval and spends some time asking us to “like” him in person. The he points out the similarities between comedy and gymnastics – it’s not just the delivery but the difficulty of he moves that make for a great performance. Thus, he ranks his jokes in skill difficulty form 1 to 10. Fart jokes are about a “3”, and going up the scale he presents a series of well conceived Carlin- esque jokes and punctuates his humor with some very nice ballads, and he even his hat is put to good use. Strickland is funny and heartwarming without ever getting smarmy. I laughed in his general direction, so should you.
