Whoo- hoo! A show about sex! And at fringe, so you might get to see some naughty bits! Well, MAYBE, but this is a strong but bifurcated show about sex and power. The outer story is the relation between two sex working (ok, prostitutes) making a killing by spanking older businessmen on a tight schedule. Donna (Wenglewick) is the queen bee; she makes proper financial decision, maintains quality control, keeps the books and schedules, and does cross words to pass those idle moments when she’s not wanking, banking or spanking. The free spirit is Trish (Lacour); she’s in it for fun and high living and the flexible hours. While there’s some witty repartee between the girls as well as a sardonic commentary on the customer base, but there’s a pair of deeper stories. Her grandfather bombed Dresden and other parts of Germany flat, and when he came home to raise her they played an increasing dangerous game that escalated beyond her ability to control it. And in parallel, we hear a story of the people underneath the bombing raid: the incendiary bombs making flesh burst into flame, the loss of society and honor and safety as the war wound down, and what that all means in the present. There’s a fun, naughty veneer of women in skimpy clothing and hard bitter core of inhumanity here. Brace yourself, it’s a bumpy ride.
