The Greatest Musical Never Written

The Greatest Musical Never Written

By Daack / Evanicki

Starring Kevin Kelly and Noel Berkofsky

Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, Blue Venue</strong>

We all hear stories of like this: someone puts in for Fringe, gets a slot, and forgets to write the script until tech night. That seems to be the situation here, the performances are reading from music standsand and the text seems to be the recollected story of “Bathhouse: The Musical!” That was a decent hit a few years ago, and it went on to run in New Youk, Paris and London. But it had a story line, a strong character progression and some decent campy songs promoted by nearly naked young men passing out soap on a rope. You get the idea. This is more fragmentary, there are a few scattered songs,so good backing music by Ned Wilkinson and the always elegant John R Mason the 3rd on keys. If there’s a purpose here, it to let writer Tim Evanicki blast out the song he wrote from himself to show his vocal powers “Why Can’t I Cast myself?” It’s a damns good song, and my response to it is: You can time, you just have to have a script. And he should, there’s enough material lying about that has promise.

This production is part of the 2014 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Information on tickets and show times may be found at http://OrlandoFringe.org/
