Resonance

Virtual Label

Here’s a powerful classical record that press agents tell me is tearing up the charts. Normally VNV Nation calls itself “Alt Electronic” but tonight it’s a combination of Phantom of the Opera, Carnegie Hall, and tense male vocal singing about endings and death and doubt. In other words, it’s like an opera you can understand. Ronan Harris is the guy singing here, he’s powerful, in control and can, when he’s inspired, send a shiver up your spine. Songs all have single word titles: “Further” and “Solitary” and “Sentinel” are typical. While each song stands alone, the ensemble is greater than the sum of the parts. The project is consistent, there are no hits or weak tracks here, just a smooth, moody and contemplative vocal with a film soundtrack style backing. This music drip with serious sauce.
