Hauntologists

Amid the bleeps and boops, underneath the rhythmic passion, and hiding behind a fat bass line is an electronic project that is both listenable and danceable. The Hauntologists operate out of the Berlin and after a stack of EP’s they stretched out to produce a full album. Like The Pet Shop Boys they prefer single word titles: “Wistful,” “Hush,” “Sustain,” and “Rain” are typical. Hauntologists present a unified sound; no title is really that clear an indicator of the musical elements.

Run by Jay Ahern and Stefan Schneide they produce the sort of introspective electronica that is never searching for a hit but rather focused on an environmental experience that is ultimately cyclical. You can enter anywhere, leave when you have to take a call, but in-between it’s full of strong and addictive percussion overlaid with the detritus of modern electronic music. Club on, my friends, Club on!
