Broken Bone Bathtub

Broken Bone Bathtub

The Orlando International Fringe Festival

Orlando, FL</strong>

I’ve stayed in my share of chain hotels, and this one isn’t bad – large bathroom, a couch, view of a parking structure, a 10 minute walk to the Fringe Fest Beer Tent. (Thanks to Matt Palm of the Sentinel for pacing it off!) Ten of us assemble in the lobby; the desk clerk seems confused but his supervisor calms him down. Eventually the Fringe pre-show guy arrives, we get the blah blah for the 20th time, and then walk down the antiseptic smelling hall to a room. They key doesn’t work. We all take turns; then… there! Green light and a click! It’s open! Inside we drop our purses and shoulder bags, then file into the bathroom. It’s now seems much smaller. I sit on the floor, not a good move for someone in my sedentary shape. In the tub concealed by artful soap suds we find Miss O’Loughlin wearing nothing but a wrist cast. Her story concerns a bike accident in Brooklyn, her goal is interaction with the crowd. We reveal ourselves: there are other broken bones, group showers, public nudity, anger management. I made it 45 minutes before I had to stand, but stayed in the room. Clearly I need to be in better shape just to watch a performance. Be warned this is show can be claustrophobic and you will be sitting in the laps of strangers. I, for one, am now MUCH closer to the New Play Development Director at Shakes. Who knows, you might change your life here.

This show was presented as part of the 2016 Orlando Fringe Festival. For show times, tickets and more information please visit . http://orlandofringe.org/
