Old jokes are the best jokes, and old joke tellers have had the practice getting them right, or at least more practice at getting any joke right. These comedians come from around Central Florida and enjoy the benefits of retirement and no need to prove anything to anyone. The material flows from a pure Borscht Belt wellspring with themes of vaguely unintended adultery, highly contested social status, Rabbi’s walking into bars, and impressive yet cursed jewelry such as the Koptnik Diamond. It’s ten carats, so what’s the curse? Mr. Kloptnik. Bada bing. Tip your server. These five jokesters (Barb Bayley, Jim Crews, Elaine Hoffman, and Mark and Pan Mankowski) come from a variety of background not all theatrical, but they put up a mostly clean and usually laugh inducing hour. Not every gag landed, and some were reading from scripts which is not the best way to hit timing but then it was a prevue show and someone dropped out at the last minute. This is a low impact start to a long and intense 2016 Fringe Festival.

This commentary was prepared from a technical rehearsal.
