Lindsey Buckingham / Christine McVie
Simply put, this seemingly surprise set from Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie serves quite nicely as the new Fleetwood Mac album we get when we can’t get a new Fleetwood Mac album. In fact, co-founding FM bassist John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood even make guest appearances throughout the ten-song collection.
Produced by Buckingham with assists from Mark Needham and Mitchell Froom, the record recreates a classic-era Fleetwood Mac sound. No, not that era – there will never be another, well, you know. But this record does take listeners on a joyride back to the band’s late ’80s sing-along era.
A record in which every track truly shines, pinpointing specific highlights is a challenge. While the Buckingham-penned opening track “Sleeping Around the Corner” zings with a zesty Say You Will flavor, the engaging Buckingham / McVie collaboration, “Feel About You” pops with irresistible Tango in the Night-type charm.
Other golden highlights include Buckingham’s super-infectious earworm “In My World,” McVie’s fabulously fun and funky “Too Far Gone” and the Mirage-style “Lay Down for Free.”
Peppered to perfection with Buckingham’s-signature schitzo guitar work, and oozing the allure of McVie’s honey-soaked vocal, the record-closing “Carnival Begin” is the pick of the litter – a warm and magical reminder of why we ALWAYS have and ALWAYS will love these two iconic artists.
