San Cisco
The Water
Island City Records
I receive buttloads of unsolicited promo music year ‘round from bands, labels, managers, publicists and editors. And rarely do any of these records ever really arouse me. However, once in a great while, I stumble across a true gem – one that totally knocks me out.
Catchy, hooky and totally irresistible, the newly-released, self-produced record from Australia’s electro-pop purveyors, San Cisco, is the surprise seduction of 2017.
Packed with Prince-like, guitar-driven funkiness, “The Kids Are Cool” kicks off the 10-song collection perfectly – and along with the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack-style “Sunrise” and the super-fresh and fun, “That Boy,” the stage is set in short order for a near-erotic, aural experience.
Boasting maximum thriller and minimal filler, The Water is brimming with noteworthy highlights such as The Cardigans-caliber, “The Distance” and the Train-flavored, “Hey, Did I Do You Wrong?” However, with its ambient, Her Name is Molly sing-along chorus, “Waiting for the Weekend” is an ultra-infectious earworm that grabs ya immediately and doesn’t let ya go ‘til Thursday – the absolute pick of the litter.
Yes, the latest from San Cisco – catchy, hooky and totally irresistible, indeed – from start to finish.
