Buckstein

Country Side

Angry Duck Records

Here’s some up to date country and western from an American Idol graduate who knows how to rock. This 5 tune EP sounds pretty good and the guy on the cover is a macho man archetype. Buckstein came out of Fullerton Colleague, and the opener plays to that: “Just cuz I ain’t from the country side doesn’t mean I don’t have a country side” is a darn snappy lyric, and nothing sways me like actual intellectualizing in a cowboy tune.

“Bad Girls” covers a minor hit by MKTO. Originally a funk influenced dance piece it blends easily into the electric guitar and disco drum driven music. “This Time” slows down a bit, but the big arrangements still make this cheating tune a lush acoustic experience that blend modern arrangements with classic story telling. This is a strong opening product, let’s see if Buckstein has the legs to make to the top of the country stadium rockers.
