Chris Roberts
Red Feather
Feather Records
The album Red Feather by Chris Roberts is a complete powerhouse of an EP and the only thing missing is more great songs. These 5 tracks span a variety of genres while giving you 100% of the amazing artist that is Chris Roberts. It feels like he’s giving you a new piece of himself with each song and each piece is more interesting than the last.
I spoke with Chris as he was in the studio recording new music for a full length album and his journey to music is just fascinating. While running his custom hat company, Aspen Hatter, he’d pull out the guitar and play from time to time until a friend asked, What are you doing with those songs? Chris said he was confused by that question but quickly began to understand that other people really loved his singing and anything less than playing in a band would be a waste of great talent.
The entire EP has the feel of a band that’s been together for a decade on the road as Chris belts out one amazing story after another. The first track “Get Down” is about getting down to the business of making great music and is a great kick in the teeth to open the album. “Hate When You’re Gone” brings you to church with some soulful flavor and feels like it could have been on a Stax Records 45 from about 1965.
The remaining 3 tracks “On My Own”, “Coming Down”, and “Remember That It’s Me”, continue the wide range of musical influences and embody what they are calling “Rock and Roll/Hippie/Country Magic”. It’s not music you can put in one genre and I don’t think Chris is the kind of guy that fits in one box either.
Bandmates Eli Wulfmeier, Adam Arcos, Jake Abernathie, and Jason Ganberg put all the heart, soul, mojo, and funk they could muster into these 5 tracks and I’m anxious to see what their cooking up for the next release. Until then, the EP is available on all digital platforms or you can grab a cd directly from his website. Livestreams and tour dates are listed there as well.
